Naples sightseeing with Paolo Sorrentino

When an Oscar-winning director decides to dedicate a film to his childhood and hometown, it’s quite a big deal. Netflix wanted to do something special to launch The Hand of God on its platform, and we were happy to help.
In 1980s Naples, a boy pursues his love for football as a family tragedy strikes his life, changing it forever. This will also mark the beginning of a promising career as a director.
To launch Paolo Sorrentino’s personal coming-of-age tale – The Hand of God, which premiered and was awarded at the Venice Film Festival in 2021 – Netflix asked him to return to his hometown. On this intimate journey, he was accompanied by photographer Paolo Pellegrin and director Paolo Freschi.
The eight-minute documentary, The Hand of God: Through the Eyes of Paolo Sorrentino, directed by Paolo Freschi, follows Sorrentino on an exclusive and sometimes moving tour of the film’s locations, including the streets, the stadium, and the house he lived in until the age of 37.
He opens up in front of the camera about the memories that never left him and the reality that serves as “the starting point of every story, but you have to reinvent it.” Through his words and the images, Naples emerges as the right place to live if you want to tell stories, a never-ending source of inspiration.
