Expo is a global stage where countries and regions have a chance to showcase their identity, excellence, and vision for the future. The challenge was to condense into one week – from September 21 to 27 – and into one space, the Italian Pavilion, the story of a region unique for its richness and diversity.
Tradition and innovation, natural beauty and artistic heritage, tourist destinations and world-renowned food products, sporting events and music culture, universities and leading enterprises. These were the guiding themes of our representation of Emilia-Romagna, a region we know deeply not only because it is our homeland, but also thanks to the experience we have gained over years of collaboration with Regione Emilia-Romagna and Emilia-Romagna Turismo.
To shape to the richness and diversity of the region, director Paolo Freschi orchestrated the five screens of the hall into a single collective narrative, an immersive 360° experience accompanied by Libiamo ne’ lieti calici, the famous song from the first act of La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi, performed by Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni. The installation was created in collaboration with the agency Signed, which handled the on-site setup. A collective project that brought together creativity, technology, and expertise to place our region at the center of one of the world’s most important international stages.
