Georges Simenon at Cinema Modernissimo: in the Footsteps of a Great Novelist

A novelist and storyteller whose imagination has inspired filmmakers and screenwriters for decades: it’s no surprise that the first monographic exhibition on Georges Simenon took place at the Cinema Modernissimo, curated by his son John Simenon and Gian Luca Farinelli, and set up by the Cineteca di Bologna.
The exhibition GEORGES SIMENON. Eight Journeys of a Novelist is a mise-en-scène of the great writer’s life and career, unfolding through his travels and reportage, his manuscripts, the films based on his works, and photographs that tell the story not only of a man, but of an era; a collection born from over a decade of research.
In this launch video, that we realised for the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna, the immersive journey through the exhibition is enriched by the words of Simenon’s son and the President of the Cineteca, also curators of the retrospective. They share insights into Simenon’s special bond with Italy — a country he considered a second homeland — and his approach to the “craft of writing,” which in many ways mirrors the creative process of a filmmaker.
